About Allendale Acres
Allendale Acres Community Garden is part of the Pittsburgh Urban Gardening Project, a 501(c)3 supporting several gardens in Pittsburgh, PA. We graduated from Grow Pittsburgh in 2018 and continue to offer low cost beds for rent and community gathering space.
Located in the Sheraden neighborhood on the west side of Pittsburgh, at the corner of Allendale and Fairedale. We are part of a network of urban gardens providing opportunities to grow food where we live.
Community gardening brings many health benefits. Obviously cheap and local access to fresh food makes healthy eating easier and more affordable, but urban green-space has been shown to improve physical and mental health in communities. Urban gardens, like ours, also promote a healthy environment; providing habitat for pollinators, reducing storm-water runoff, and reducing the impact of urban heat islands.

Our Mission:
To make Pittsburgh and Allegheny County a healthier and more sustainable city by creating gardens and educating residents of the city about planting, growing, and harvesting their own food.
Our Vision:
We envision a community space where everyone feels welcome to grow. We look to a future where growing food is fun and accessible to everyone and healthy lifestyles are embraced. We are a place in the neighborhood where people can come together to learn how to create a garden and to be in community. Together we can support ourselves and each other and celebrate the beautiful world around us.
